How did I ever live without this tofu press?
Love, love, love this gadget! I cringe when I think of all the paper towels I've wasted over the years. I actually bought 2 of these presses so I could squeeze two blocks of tofu at the same time...they came in so handy this past Thanksgiving when I made a tofu loaf. I actually use my EZ Tofu Presses at least 3 times per week...and I discovered a great way to catch the water without taking up a lot of countertop space with plates or bowls. I use the (House brand) plastic containers that the tofu is packaged in! The presses balance perfectly upright in the containers (see photo) and I don't have to wash any plates or bowls afterward...just dump the containers in the recycling bin! I've also tried all types of (House brand) tofu with this press (soft, medium, firm and extra firm) and it works like a charm. Obviously, you have to be careful with the softer stuff since you could easily squish it into a mess, but if you want to remove a bit of the water from the soft or medium, it can be done with this press. It does work best with firm and extra firm though. If you eat tofu, you simply must have one of these presses...but I recommend buying two! Update: I wrapped a block of House soft tofu in a couple of layers of cheese cloth and placed it in the EZ Tofu Press. It worked like a charm! I was able to remove nearly all of the liquid from the tofu without it turning into a huge squashed mess inside the press. The texture became a lot more firm as well. So if your favorite tofu is on the soft side, wrap it entirely in at least 2 layers of cheese cloth before using the press!
