Excellent harness for Vestibular Disease, dysplasia, stroke, surgery in your dog. SEE PIX
We've been using this for about a month now on our Standard Poodle. We bought the Medium harness, based on her chest size and fellow poodle owner's experience with this. She is 14 and has hip dysplasia and arthritis in her knee/hip and back. She recently had a stroke and could not get up on her own for days. Due to her age, we cannot operate and will keep her as comfortable as possible but sometimes this means that we have to get her up and moving. She needs to move and go outside to potty. Because of the dysplasia, squatting is difficult. Because of the stroke, she gets dizzy and is off balance. A whole laundry list of problems to work around. We found that this harness was our solution, but we had some issues with it. She was quite happy to just have it put on and keep it on all day. The rear harness is a bit difficult to fit on her, as she has a narrow waist/hips and long legs. We found that it would start to slip down (like a saggy diaper) when she was wearing it. The front harness is easy to fit and we had better luck with the overall fit of it. Although it doesn't say that you can lift your pet from this strap, the company assured me that you certainly can. The connectors can certainly take the weight and distribute it evenly across your pet's shoulders and hip harness. It has been 2 months since the Vestibular Disease episode/stroke and our dog has fully recovered. The harness has been lent to a friend to help with their dog. They love it as much as we did. The last picture is our dog currently: healthy and happy. A worthwhile investment and a tremendous help to you and your pet. **I contacted the company and they sent a narrower y-connector strap that is more easily adaptable for our needs. Thank you David for your concern and immediate help! ** When we took her to the vet, we had her in the complete harness with the shoulder strap for additional support and everyone commented on 'wow, look at that gear!' She had not trouble doing her business with the harness on, as there is enough room between the leg straps for that. We sometimes had to use the rear harness handle to support her so she didn't fall over, but even holding her up, it didn't cause her any discomfort in her uro-genital area. The handles are well positioned at the shoulder and hips to help them get up and move around, but again: I just wish that the connection tying the front and rear harness together was shorter. For a smaller dog, I can't imagine how they'd made this work. We considered cutting the webbing and re-sewing it to suit our needs.
