Just needs some additional instructions! :)
I was worried about purchasing these after I read some of the reviews, but figured I knew enough about plants and terra cotta to make them work :) First, I submerged the Plant Nanny in water and let it soak for an hour or so. Terra cotta absorbs a lot of water, and I figured if the stakes were already full of moisture when placed into the dirt, they would be less likely to pull in moisture from the bottles as quickly. Then, I gave my plants (I use these on tomato plants) a healthy watering - almost 2x as much as I normally would on a regular water - to really soak the soil. Then, I placed the Plant Nanny in the soil and attached the water bottle (I use the Smart Water bottles with the labels peeled off - they are pretty sleek-looking and unobtrusive, so they aren't super noticeable in my yard). Works perfectly! The bottle didn't release any water upon being placed in the Plant Nanny and has been (very) slowly releasing water in the days since. My tomatoes are the only plants not on drip irrigation and I was always forgetting to water them regularly. These have been a lifesaver!
