I have 4 of these and they are awesome. The cable is 2-prong, unlike the 1.5 acre model which is 3
I have 4 of these and they work great (one died in 2019, see edit below). Two of them are this size, while the other two are the larger 1.5 acre size. All four of the units work flawless and have zapped thousands and thousands of bugs for me. There were small piles of dead bugs eventually forming and it made me smile.
I ended up cutting out some of the plastic guarding to allow easier access for the bugs. I want them all to die as fast as possible! MUWAHAHAHA This is a great addition and does not effect your unit in any way other than good, so do it. Cutting out 3 or 4 plastic guards per side works best for me - each with varying height so that the light is more randomly refracted outward and attracts insects betters.
One thing you should note - and the only difference I could find between this unit and the largest 1.5 acre unit (except for a small size difference of course) - is that the BK-40D does not have a 3-prong power cable like that of the 1.5 acre model, and instead uses a regular 2 prong power cable. If you plan on using the BK-40D outside be careful in choosing your extension cable, as using a 3-prong extension cable will leave you with one hole exposed to the elements, which could create problems with rain. So be sure to tape it up if you do!
Last note: the difference you will see after using these units is amazing! My area gets a ton of mosquitos and I have yet to be bit once this entire year. Bugs just can get enough and I can't see how I lived without these before.
EDIT 6/11/2020 - ADDED VIDEO
In the video I show 3 of the flowtrons in action in my pecan grove. I hang them on different trees every other day or so. This bug action is mild compared to when it's really pitch black outside (especially when the moon isn't out). I have a massive herd of toads who I've friended living outside, eating up all the dead insects.
My machines zaps hundreds of bugs a minute all night long, and I've had them for 2 or 3 summers now, using them half of the year 10 hours a night. One of my smaller flowtrons gave out on me at the end of last year but they are very affordable so I wasn't too upset. Will be replacing and adding more over time.
