Helping me wean off antidepressant
I've been taking 20mg Prozac (SSRI) daily for over 18 years and have been weaning off it. I started to have depression and negative thinking so I looked online for supplements that might help. Some of the most recommended supplements (5-HTP, etc.) turn out to be deadly when combined wit SSRIs. B vitamins are also recommended, but I searched and couldn't find anything saying they are a problem when taking SSRIs. So I ordered this.. By this time I was feeling the depression and negativity more heavily and I was concerned I'd have to increase my Prozac dosage. Within a few hours of taking my first tablet, my mood lifted completely. I could actually feel it happening. I have now been taking the tablets daily for about a week with no return of my symptoms. I'm going to decrease my Prozac dosage again in a few days and I'm very glad to be continuing with my weaning. I highly recommend these vitamins for anyone who is trying to wean off antidepressants or is just suffering from depression. I don't represent this company in any way - I'm just a very satisfied customer. Update: Another reviewer said we only need to take half a capsule since the excess vitamins wash through us. It's true that some is lost when you first start taking them, but you'll notice it doesn't happen anymore after you've taken them for a few weeks. I think it can take a while for our bodies to absorb the full amount. I suggest taking one full tablet each day right from the beginning. The price is pretty good on these, anyway - IMO. Update: I'm now down to 70 percent of my Prozac dosage. I'm really taking my time on weaning since I tried weaning off Prozac once before and it was a disaster. I'm still doing really well. I did have a few days when I was worried I might be going a little downhill so I ordered this same company's (The Synergy Company) vitamin C. I'm not taking any chances at all on getting depressed and failing in this weaning so I wanted to nip it in the bud. I only take one of the vitamin C tablets daily and I do believe it helps. I have no signs of depression. I'm going to start taking Carlson's Salmon oil as soon as it arrives as added insurance as I understand Omega 3 s can help with depression also. I've spent quite a bit of time researching fish oils and Carlson's is a good brand. See my review of Carlson's Salmon oil for why I chose it. I'm determined to get off Prozac this time and want to do whatever I can. I write all of this in hopes it will help others trying to get off SSRIs. One unexpected side benefit of this vitamin B complex is my hair is getting thicker from the biotin in it. I can see short one and two inch strands growing in at my part and they already give the appearance of thicker hair. Nice since I'm in my sixties and had been experiencing thinning hair. Update 6/23/13: I'm doing so well on this with no signs of depression at all, that I've now decided to taka a bit of a leap and reduce my Prozac (fluoxetine) dosage to 50%. In other words, I'm taking a pill every other day. I've been using magnesium oil spray for another issue for a few months, but I've recently learned it may also aid in depression so there's no telling how this has helped. The spray I use is Dr. Barbara Hendel's Magnesium Oil, which is a Swanson's product and can be purchased on Amazon. Update: July 2, 2013: I've been doing so well that I actually stopped taking Prozac (fluoxetine) altogether a few days ago. I've been gradually improving my diet with more veggies and fruit, pastured meat and dairy (homemade plain yogurt) and trying to have a more alkaline diet. I started taking a multi vitamin/mineral complex. Altogether, the Pure Synergy Vitamin B complex, their vitamin C and the other things I mentioned throughout this entire post seem to be doing the trick for me and in more ways than just the depression. Will update if anything changes in regard to the fluoxetine. If I don't, it means that everything is still going well.
