Comparing it to the Instax...
I've had an Instax printer for several years, and see this little printer as fulfilling a similar need: quick cute prints right from your phone.
Size-wise, this HP has a similar footprint, but omg when you compare the widths -- WOW. It's like a third the thickness of the Instax.
Unlike the Instax, the HP is rechargable using a micro USB cord, which is GREAT. Less new batteries to buy and old batteries in the trash is always a good thing.
App-wise, the experiences are similar. You send a picture to the app, and it prints. The Instax is more fiddly though because it prints through a WiFi network instead of a Bluetooth connection like the HP does. The HP app feels more bloated though... What are all these AR options and bla bla. Just print the dang picture!
Photo-quality wise, the HP has bolder color, bit some weird green tones that show up around the edges. Instax is a lighter exposure print, but man that FILM feel can't be beat. It's part of what I love about the Instax: it makes digital photos feel like film... Whereas the HP is clearly very much a digital print of a digital photo. It doesn't have that poloroid-esque vibe of the Instax, which I really do love.
So in summary: the HP wins on almost all fronts: it's slimmer, rechargable, and prints with richer colors. But there's just no beating an instax for that film vibe. I'm gonna call it a tie and say that maybe these printers aren't as similar a niche as I thought.... If you're getting the HP, you don't care about the film vibe. It does digital very very well!!!
