Operating proceedure that no one tells you about
This is a good product, I read many reports on these before deciding. What became obvious from the start of use is the fact that if you are brutal and ham fisted you will break not only this one but many of the others too. ........Why, well a big potato is hard to slice. The pressure side of the unit(the part that pushes the potato) needs surface area to spread its load and take the energy (pressure) from the lever handle otherwise it mushes the potato as all its force becomes a point load. The solution I found was to cut the potato at its end to give a flat surface about one inch square (or half the potato if you don't mind short fries) then the pressure is evenly distributed through the potato and the handle easily slices. The suction pad works well and the side operating lever makes a good seal. So why only 4 stars, well you fix the slicer to the work surface and slice the potato but where to the fries go, on the work surface as there is no allowance to attach a plate or tray unless I am missing a trick here. This would be a simple fix and as I make lots of fries and the starch from the slicing on my worktop is another mess that needs cleaning up.
