I never knew ice cube trays could change my life
For almost 8 years, I've lived in my apartment with a variety of dollar-store ice cube trays. They worked, sometimes, popping out the cubes after some coaxing. Sometimes, I'd have to heat them up over a gas burner to melt them enough so they'd release, sometimes, I would leave them on the counter before I "cracked" them, and then I'd end up with wet, half sized cubes. Sometimes, I'd slam them into the counter, surely driving my neighbors crazy, Sometimes, I'd try to crack them, and the tray would snap in half in my hands. I even have a scar from where one cut me, although it wasn't the first time an ice cube tray cut me. That was just the one that left a scar.
One of my life mottos is, "a good home is one where you can get a good glass of ice water." But what good is ice water if you're slicing your hand open getting the ice? No good, I say!
Enter, Rubbermaid Easy Release Ice Cube Tray - Pack of 2. I've had these trays for less than a week, but I can say without a doubt and (I swear to God) without any sarcasm that these ice cube trays have made my life at home considerably better. You barely twist it, and the cubes slide out. Did you read that? They slide out! They don't pop up in your face, they don't crack in half and fall on the floor (only to leave the other half stuck frozen in the tray). They slide out and into your glass or ice bucket and life is good with your perfect ice cubes.
The only thing that I don't like about these is that you have to place the top tray directly onto the bottom tray, you can't slide it back. You'll know what I mean when you buy them. And you should buy them - it's such a minor, minor thing that I debated even mentioning it, but here I am professing my love for ice cube trays, so why not mention the one thing they could make better the next time they redesign these (which, Rubbermaid, they're otherwise perfect, so maybe don't redesign them, eh?)
