I love it
(See 2020 addendum at bottom)
I had bought a cheaper solar fountain as a deal, which only had 1.4 W of power and no battery; and it only worked in blazing direct sunlight, and would intermittently spurt, if it was overcast. It died after three months, when water penetrated and corroded the solar cell; and shorted it out.
This unit produces 2.5 W and has a battery. It worked on a partially sunny day with a good stream. It doesn't stop when a momentary cloud blocks the sun. They say the barrier to protect the cells is more robust than the competitors. I guess we'll see!
We'll have to see if the solar cell holds up and how many charge/discharge cycles the battery can handle. I'll come back with an addendum, once it's had a fair trial, but so far, it's far superior to it's cheaper predecessor. Its price is almost double the cheaper fountain, but it's certainly worth it.
Addendum (5/23/20): This unit lasted about a year and then suddenly gave up the ghost. All in all, I can't complain too much about this plucky little fountain.
