Works best as a suspended survival sleeping bag!
I love the outdoors and survival situations. I’ve gone out for a weekend in the wilderness with nothing but the clothes on my back and a hatchet...and survived. Having said that, I would have liked to have had this survival “tent.” My experience with a shelters has not been one of huge success. I always get something over my head, but not something that keeps me warm; I have to rely on sleeping too close to the fire for that. This survival shack both keep you warm (surprisingly warm!) and dry.
SETUP
Setting this up was easy. I opened the package and searched for directions, but came up short (later I saw that there are directions on the bottom of the front label). Without directions, I opened the mylar material and figured to thread the string through the middle since it is a large circle of fabric. I then tied the ends to two trees (too high at first, 3 feet off the ground is best), and I was done.
INSIDE
I then crawled in. It was a rather windy day, so I closed the ends around me (leaving a breathing hole) and lay down. The material was close next to me instead of suspended away from my body, as the product images show, which warmed me up very quickly. I was warm and the wind couldn’t touch me. It worked.
Pros:
Warm, dry.
Thin and light for carrying in the bottom of a pack.
Thin mylar material, yet it didn’t rip or tear at all.
Large enough for two people to cuddle close and stay alive.
Cons:
None that I can think of.
This did exactly what it is supposed to. I would have liked it to have an air mattress and a real blanket, but that would defeat the idea of it being an emergency item that is painless to carry in your backpack. I received this survival tent in exchange for a real and honest review. I actually tested it out, which is totally obnoxious because it will now never fit back into the tiny bag that it came in. It is reusable, but folding it back into the original size is not practical.
