easy to adjust the height
We tried to cut bottles with our wet saw and a diamond blade, it did the job; however the cuts were very rough, requiring a lot of sanding to finish the edges. We debated about different brands of bottle cutters and opted for the Genround based on Amazon reviews and the price point. Let me back up, never have we tried to cut a wine bottle before, other than the wet saw experience. Pulled this out of the box, rolled a wine bottle around the cutter one time, heated some water in a tea kettle, poured hot water on the score line, then cold tap water on the score, then hot for a second round and PRESTO bottle breaks on the score line. This cutter does exactly what it is intended to do, feels well built, easy to adjust the height. We cut 30 bottles in less than an hour. Now of course, the finish sanding takes a bit longer.
Not all of our bottles have survived the cutting experience, not due to the cutter, but more to the heat/cool process. You want to concentrate your hot water on the score line, then cold, then hot. If you get the bottle too hot it stands a good chance of cracking on the score line and beyond. If you don't get a good score all the way around you will be in trouble. You have to find the right amount of pressure, don't score too deep, but you have to leave a decent score line. Watch your score as you heat/cool the score line. You can see the break begin to develop, then you need to slow down the heat/cool process and really concentrate on the score line.
