I purchased trays and Opalescence 20% whitening gel from my dentist. My instructions were to apply the gel to the trays (sparingly) and then wear the trays for 90 minutes a day for two weeks without skipping days. My teeth are no longer yellow. The product works. I did experience some discomfort and sensitivity around my gum line and in my teeth but it is nothing that is intolerable. I would not try a stronger strength of the gel. My dentist gave me a toothpaste to use to help with the sensitivity and it has helped. I believe it is important to follow the instructions of the dentist with regard to the amount of gel that is applied to the whitening trays. A little does go a long way and too much causes unnecessary discomfort to the gums. The product and this method of tooth whitening is effective but you need to be patient and diligent. I purchased more gel for future touch ups from an Amazon.com vendor because it was more cost effective than purchasing more gel from the dentist.
