Started making a loud buzzing noise: How to fix humidifier noise and clean the nebulizer
Worked quietly for a year, then started making a loud buzzing sound. I cleaned it, emptied it and let it dry, turned it on and off, tried running it lower, nothing works. It's so loud now it can't be used at night. UPDATE: I contacted Kaz customer service via email and they wrote back with info on how to fix this. It worked! They really should include this in the manual or post online. But in any case, thanks Kaz for responding with this info. You've redeemed yourselves! Apparently it's a dirty nebulizer, which is probably an issue with a lot of humidifiers. I'm pasting the info from Kaz here for anyone who has this problem. ___ 1) To clean the nebulizer, make sure it is turned off and unplugged. 2) Remove and empty out the water tank and then empty the base of the unit in the sink. (The nebulizer, or black circle, that you see in the bottom of the base vibrates at ultrasonic speeds to create the mist that this unit gives off. If there are minerals in the water that get past the filter, or if you are not using a filter, then they collect on that plate and once they harden, the nebulizer slows to a pace that is not sufficient to create mist, or can cause a grinding sound.) 3) Fill the base with undiluted white vinegar (just enough to cover the nebulizer) and let it soak for at least 20 minutes. If you see a strong mineral build up you may want to let it soak for longer. 4) With the nebulizer still soaking in the vinegar, take a cotton swab and wipe around the nebulizer to remove the mineral deposits. 5) Empty the vinegar and rinse the base until the smell of vinegar is gone. 6) Do not run the unit with the vinegar in it.
