Finally, the FIRST non-disposable ultrasonic toothbrush!
The first thing I did after brushing with this toothbrush, was to take the thing apart. Mind you, not because there was anything wrong with the toothbrush, but because I wanted to understand whether this would be another electric toothbrush that I'd have to toss in the trash after the battery dies 5 years from now. You see, I've been on a sort of quest for a good electric toothbrush that hasn't been designed with planned obsolescence in mind.
Most battery powered electronics (like a watch, cell phone, or flashlight) will last a lifetime, simply because the batteries are replaceable. However, unlike these common appliances, electronic toothbrushes are generally super wasteful, as the batteries are designed to be near impossible to replace, and each electric toothbrush must be disposed of every few years. The beauty of this product, is that unlike the big name Sonicare and Oral-B toothbrushes, which are designed with batteries that are nearly impossible to replace, this toothbrush has the potential to last you a lifetime, because its battery is (relatively) simple to replace.
Using only a philips and a small flathead screwdriver, I was able to quickly disassemble the toothbrush, and get at the battery stored inside. No insane prying and soldering needed. The philips screw is located at the bottom of the toothbrush under the QC sticker, holding the bottom hatch in place. Once this hatch is removed, a small flathead screw driver is needed to dislodge the pair of plastic clips (see image) holding everything in place. That's it! Now the whole assembly can be removed, and the battery accessed with ease.
Although I don't expect to be replacing the battery anytime soon, I'm happy to know that when the battery finally does burn out, I don't have to wastfully dispose of this electric toothbrush - which IMHO automatically makes it better than every other electric toothbrush out there.
Oh, and just for review completeness, this ultrasonic toothbrush brushes great! As far as cleaning ability, it's as good and probably better than the Sonicare electric toothbrushes, and head and shoulders above Oral-B.
