SHARK FOR LIFE!
Let me preface this by saying I am a LOYAL shark enthusiast and a vacuum expert- you didn't know that was a thing did you? I owned the $500 vacuum some years ago and after it failed the second time, I went out to purchase a shark as a replacement after seeing how much my sister in law loved hers. After the first use of shark I was sold! That shark ended up with a failed motor after a couple of years so I purchased another. Had I known then about the amazing shark warranty I wouldn't have bought a new one- but I digress... (actually, yes I would have, because my new shark has the removable canister that you can take on steps) Fast forward 5 years and ive found myself in need of a cordless vacuum to take care of everyday messes from dogs, a cat, and a 2 year old, in my 85% hard surface floored home. Sweeping is so pre 21st century, and lugging out the "big shark" for everyday messes is more trouble than its worth. Although the B&D lithium ion dusterbuster is incredibly powerful, its meant more for cheerio and dog food cleanups and not to vacuum your entire room. So, I searched for a cordless option that wouldn't break the bank, naturally, the $500 vacuum was top rated in the world of cordless vacs, but after being spoiled by sharks prices, I wasn't willing to shell out that cash. So I saved up a bunch of coupons and Kohls cash and purchased the "top of the line" hoover cordless vac, 2 months prior to their new cordless "react" release. I instantly regretted this purchase and that cordless vac is now at my office- where all sub-par vacuums go to die. Then came black Friday 2017.... The $500 vac was on sale for $249, how could I pass up such a deal? But again, with my undying loyalty to shark and my uncompensated and unsolicited testimonials to all of my friends and coworkers regarding the shark brand, how could I ever be a 2 time Judas to shark simply because of price? I already made that mistake (ahem hoover), and wasn't willing to make it again.... So on the search I went for a cordless shark option. Ideally, I would have purchased the newest shark cordless, the shark ion duo flex something or the other, but even at black Friday 2017 prices, I didn't want to shell out the cash...and I stumbled upon this little known, little advertised gem. The reviews were not plentiful, but the ones that did exist were great. so I placed my order. Two days later I have used my new cordless shark and couldn't be happier- not only does it do what is says it will, but that price tho! PROS: Easy to put together, took less than a minute Lithium ion battery- the gold star in the battery world Carpet and hard surface option- The ability to turn off the roller is great, although I tend to use the roller on hard surface too. Max energy and power conserve mode- want to really get in there? turn it on max! The max power mode is comparable to your full size sharks suction capabilities- so much so that using the max mode on an area rug will pull the rug up...its too much power! easy fix- turn on energy saving mode and get your rugs and mats clean without having to turn the vac off to release them. THE LIGHTS!- you will never know what filth you have been walking barefoot on until you have a light on your vaccum and see how much yuck is on your floor until you see it all illuminated. The bonus to this is that you can be certain is has been picked up when you run over the area in the second pass The attachments- comes with all the attachments youll need that come with your full size vac, the attachment that reaches under stoves and couches is more beneficial than you could ever know until you use it. Maneuverability- incredibly easy to maneuver. the foot on the vac is fairly small and easily fits under table and chairs. CONS: Top heavy- well, this is to be expected. but still. No wall mount- A wall mount should come with the vacuum. Because its so top heavy, leaning it against the wall isn't much of an option. Sure itll stay leaned against a wall (unlike the above mentioned hoover than would roll forward every time), but leaning it against a wall risks it falling over on its side anyway and breaking. Luckily, shark stands by their warranty and have replaced damaged by human error (i.e. husbands) twice, no questions asked. A wall mount is available for purchase separately, but its kind of annoying to have to purchase an accessory that is pretty vital. but at this price- I wont complain too much (im saying this prior to searching for the cost of the wall mount) Height- I am 5'2, and the height of the vacuum is a bit awkward for me- its about 6 inches too tall. Once I get going its not a big issue- but initially, I was uncomfortable with having the handle and power switches up to high before releasing the foot. One battery- The newer, top of the line sharks come with two batteries. This one does not, but again, at the price- ill manage. Color options- I believe this particular model only comes in one color- purple (which is my favorite color and the one I would have chosen anyway). But if you are looking for a variety of colors, this vacuum doesn't offer it. For me, its not a deal breaker. Corners- It isn't the best at getting into the corners, but the attachments included will take care of that. Overall, this is an incredible vacuum you should be considering. It will do what you need it to- pick up everyday messes. If you don't have pets, I would say this vacuum would be the only one you will need. If you don't want/need the fanciest of options like the flexible, bendable, foldable center, this vac is the one for you. My brother in law ended up purchasing the same one on my advice.
