I read bad reviews on this litter box so I was a bit leery of purchasing it. That said, a lot of those seemed to revolve around unrealistic expectations and frankly improper use. I have had this box a month now. I have never dealt with crystals so there was a bit of a learning curve as to just when to change them. That said I have an obscenely sensitive sense of smell. The only time I ever smelled anything was when she was actively defacating. Anyone who has been around cats when they do either knows it can be foul. These crystals suck the moisture and smell away insanely fast. In fact her kibble is all I can smell in the room. I have the rake set at 20 minutes. You have to give the crystals time to absorb or you will have poo stuck to the rake. I also use the forever tray. There isn't anything wrong with the disposables as far as functionality. They are however very very expensive. I have one cat so I could just buy one maybe two a month. They are better than $20 each. That adds up. It's just as easy to dump a tray and hose it out once a month. And the forever tray is plastic vice the cardboard of the disposables. I haven't had any leaks or accidents, but feel better with hard plastic. So as long as you use it as designed, it's a great buy. *Update (7/11/18) Still works beautifully! * Update 10/30/2020 I now have two cats. The counter for number of uses is quite helpful! With one cat i would change litter after about 80 uses. With two cats it goes to 50 because sometimes one will go right in after the other!! Still functions well! I have the crystals come to me through amazon monthly, so I never run out of “poop rocks”. I still think it’s well worth the money!!
