Works great. I got it specifically to separate the cats eating area from our puppy. The pet gate opening is too large and allows for easy access, so I took the advice of other reviewers and cut out one bar out of the gate. You do not need a power tool to accomplish this, I used a mini hacksaw and it only took a minute. Then I filed the exposed ends and covered them with white duct tape. Also, I highly recommended using a pair of "wall savers for pressure gates" to minimize damage to your wall - see pictures
