Read About My Mistakes And How I Finally Got A SOLID CUP OF COFFEE! PERFECT FILTER!
I was so used to the screw on filters, but tired of how the screw would often break and no longer tighten. I purchased this one at a great price as a two-pack. My first attempt at making coffee was a total fail. I treated this filter like a screw on and poured some water in, waited 20 seconds, then poured the rest. I heard the water quickly drip down into my cup and within a min, the filter was empty. I knew the coffee would taste like.. well, water. And yup, it did. My second attempt the next day wasn't any better. In fact, I would say it was worse! This morning was my third and final attempt. I was going to return these filters if I don't get a perfectly strong coffee. But I did! Before I started to pour the water in, I remember reading on the reviews about how the coffee grounds need to be packed. In my first two attempts, I "packed" the grounds by pushing the top filer as firmly into the grounds as possible. Well, that's probably not what the reviewer meant. I realized that "packing" the grounds means soaking them, making it wet, less porous and difficult for water to get through... like dirt (dry) v. mud (wet). When it finally came time to pour in my water, I literally poured in a table spoon at a time... watched it disappear but didn't hear any dripping sound. I did it again three more times, for a total of 4 times. I stopped when I began to hear a drip. A single drip at least 8 seconds after I poured in the last bit of "packing" water indicated to me that perhaps it was ok to fill the rest of the filter. I did just that, placed the cover on, and washed some dishes for the next 5 min. To my relief, when I went back to check on the filter well, I still saw water! YES. SUCCESS. NO NEED FOR A RETURN! And now I'm drinking my perfect cup of coffee.
