I feel your pain and it can get better for you!
I've had sinus issues for the past few years- Alkalol was the first bit of relief I found in my long journey to a solution to fix my problems. I've pretty much tried everything Amazon offers since then. Some good, some bad. The use of Alkalol has been consistent throughout.
Since you're probably looking at this item because you have sinus issues, I'll list more stuff that worked awesome for me and might work as well for you...Along with Alkalol, these are the other products that have worked best for me in descending order:
* SinuPulse Elite: SinuPulse Elite Advanced Nasal Sinus Irrigation System Not only does it flush 100x better than a neti pot, it also flushes your tonsils and throat. Turns out the majority of my issues stemmed from tonsil stones I was unable cough up. First time I used the SinuPulse, tonsil stones were falling out of my mouth like candy from a piñata. It was gross, but an amazing relief. I was just using a neti pot and wondering why I wasn't getting any better and why my head still felt full. It was because I wasn't clearing it all out. Neti pot works great for simple sinus issues, don't get me wrong- but using a neti pot to assist with a serious sinus problem is like driving a 88 Honda Civic instead of a Tesla- it works but it's outdated and inefficient. You can use Alkalol in here, but i suggest mixing it with the salt packets that come with the machine. I also mix in some xylitol every once in a while.
* Nutribiotic Nasal Spray Plus: NUTRIBIOTIC Nasal Spray Plus, 1 oz. I had tons of biofilm and white thick mucous stuck up in my sinuses and this stuff cut through it like a ninja. I read some things about the grapefruit seed extract not having the beneficial properties it claims to have, so if that's the case it must have been the other ingredients mixed in.
* Nutribiotic Throat Spray: Nutribiotic Throat Spray, 4 Fluid Ounce Thinned out the biofilm at the back of my throat, similar to the Nasal Spray, but with different ingredients like zinc, slippery elm, aloe and menthol. Again, not sure if the GSE in it worked, but something in these 2 Nutribiotic products worked like a charm.
* Benzedrex- Benzedrex Nasal Decongestant Inhaler For those days you've overblown your nose and it's just dry and inflamed, but still somehow clogged up. This will open you right up and assist you in releasing all the nasty trapped mucous.
* Eustachi- Eustachi - Eustachian Tube Exerciser Makes me feel like I'm "opening things up" in my inner ear. I like to use it before and a few hours after I rinse my sinuses. Use it too soon after without clearing everything out and you could push the residual junk around inside your head and make things worse- at least that's how I looked at it.
* Dr. Katz Mouthwash- TheraBreath Dentist Recommended Fresh Breath Oral Rinse - Icy Mint Flavor, 16 Ounce (Pack of 2) I started off using this on it's own but lately have been mixing it with equal parts of Alkalol and gargling with and it really helps thin out that mucous and soothe my tonsils/throat.
* Uncle Harry's Mouthwash- Uncle Harry's Natural Alkaline Miracle Mouthwash (2 fl oz) Really powerful product and really helped clean out my throat when gargled and soothed my teeth when they felt like they were effected by my sinuses. It also helped cover-up on those days I couldn't get the stagnant mucous taste/odor to go away. Has a salty taste at first, but I got used to it quick and when the salty taste is gone, it's strong mint. Contains ingredients like mineral clay, colloidal silver and strong natural oils.
* Uncle Harry's Toothpaste- Uncle Harry's Fluoride Free Toothpaste - Peppermint (3 oz glass jar)Similar to the mouthwash. Contains the same ingredients listed above but with a few other ingredients to make it paste-like. Nice and powerful and again soothing when my teeth and gums feel effected by my sinus inflammation.
Along with using these products, I also searched for sinus and lymph drainage techniques on youtube. If you're like me and have painful and inflamed sinuses due to blockage, this will probably be one of the best things you could do for yourself. Best place to practice the techniques is a steaming hot bath with some epsom salt and decongesting essential oils. If you can't manage a bath, grab a big pot and bring water to a temperature that produces steam comfortable enough for you to breathe in then add the essential oils in there and place a towel over your head and the pot, making sure to seal it off. Breathe in the vapor for 15-20 minutes, taking breaks as needed, then when you're finished you should practice drainage techniques. After that, deep breathing exercises help to get oxygen deep in those sinuses.
I took the time to write this review and make a list, because I have truly suffered both mentally and physically from my sinus torture and would love to help someone else who also suffers. If this information was put in front of me 2-3 years ago I don't feel I would have suffered so badly. I feel your pain and it can get better for you! Good luck!
**UPDATE**
Very happy to see this has gotten so many helpful votes. Glad this information is helping so many people. Just a quick update on my situation and a few other things that might help out.
Turns out that my teeth are the biggest issue when it comes to my sinus problem. I had always thought I had fair teeth and always felt I was doing my best to take care of them- but it turns out there are some issues that are deeper that you might not notice. Teeth can interact with your sinuses, especially if you have long roots or undetected cracks in your teeth.
My sinus issue was always on my right side- the ENT who treated me thought it was just my anatomy and that I had allergies- I was like ...ok, and went with what he said for a while until the whole right side of my head and neck was inflamed internally- like I could press on the back of my neck and feel the pressure on the bridge of my nose. Enough was enough! At this point I had swollen sinuses from top to bottom, heavy ringing in my ear, a bad cyst on my neck, bad cellulitis, really bad internal inflammation, tightened muscles and heavy stress. In a search that made me look like a crazy person, I dug deeper in to the doctors treating me trying to find out what was wrong. I visited doctor after doctor. They prescribed me anti-depressants(I couldn't bring myself to take them based on past experience), 1 round of antibiotics(I'm scared to take anything more), muscle relaxers, bottle after bottle of 600 MG Ibuprofen, chiropractor, physical therapy, then got a CT Scan that I was told turned up nothing(phew?). Went to my Dentist time and time again- nothing, 3 different ENT's- nothing...no more recommendations other than to not stress about it and to gargle with salt water, flush my nose and use Nasacort. I was so defeated... out of work for 6 months, low on money, self-esteem and patience. I made my family's life a living hell without even realizing how bad I could be. It changed me.
At this point it was either I curl up in a ball and wait for death or keep looking for a remedy. I have 2 beautiful kids and an awesome girlfriend, so of course I kept on keepin' on, buyin' stuff on Amazon and researching a way out of my own personal hell. To make this long story short- I badgered all of the Doctors and Dentists treating me for months until I found out I had a cracked tooth along with TMJ and deep gum issues. I couldn't even pinpoint this, but look what it did to my sinuses! I'm still waiting on a root canal and treatment for that, so perhaps I'll update you all on that one day. But in the meantime, here is an updated list of products/procedures that helped me bring down the inflammation in my sinuses to the point I could breathe out of my right nostril again and only hear slight ringing and experience slight bouts of inflammation. This time it was more change of habit and procedure than product- once again, my list is in descending order- only this time the first 3 have equal value.
** Get off non-essential prescriptions- When I made the determination that enough was enough and it was time to get better or I would probably die from infection, I quit taking my ADD medicine- leaving behind medication might not be an option for everyone, but it was for me so I took it. There are lots of freaky side-effects with prescription medication and it can mess you up slowly and surely. I was prescribed adderall and it was making me insane and only seemed to instigate the issues I was having. (Can you believe one of the ENT's who treated me said it should actually help??).BTW DON'T STOP TAKING YOUR MEDICINE WITHOUT SEEING THE DOCTOR WHO PRESCRIBED IT TO YOU FIRST.
** Oil Pulling- I tried this a few times a couple years ago and was like....EH, and gave up. Little did I know this was thee #1 thing I should have been doing all along. I used Castor/Olive oil mix with a few drops of peppermint, clove and eucalyptus for the first week, then started using coconut oil. After I write finish this update I will be purchasing Ayurvedic Oral Pulling Rinse By Dale Audrey, Organic Cinnamon ,With Neem, Myrrh, Clove & Oil of Oregano. 16oz (3 Month-1tsp) Natural & Organic, FREE COBALT GLASS BOTTLE WITH PUMP!, as I have heard these ingredients will be the best for my gums and killing bacteria. Haven't tried this product yet, so don't hold me to it...but please trust oil pulling in general will make a difference- just make sure it is cold pressed and 100% natural. Not only did this help my gums, but it totally freed up nasty tick mucus in my nose, throat and post-nasal cavity. At first I did 20 minutes twice a day, now down to once a day- more if needed...but just do what you can, it won't hurt- just don't swallow!
** Christopher's Infection Formula- Dr. Christopher's Infection 100 caps After trying lots of sprays and gadgets, I decided to go a different route and go internal, I came across this stuff and extremely glad I did. It didn't clear up everything at once, but boy did it clear a path to my healing. Stopping my prescription and taking this were the exact moment things started to turn around for me. Might not work for every condition, but it sure worked for me.
* Argnine + Ornithine- Jarrow Formulas Arginine and Ornithine, Sports Nutrition, 750 mg, 100 Easy-Solv Tabs I actually got mine from GNC, but I trust Jarrow brand, so I'd go with them or NOW brand if I was to purchase here on Amazon. This amino acid helps with removal of bacterial die-off and production of Nitric Oxide. I'm by no means an expert, so please do more research in to this for a full explanation of how it works. I found it gave me more energy and made my head less "cloudy". This also seemed like it made a huge difference with my healing internally as well. My sinuses became less swollen and I started spitting out less and less thick mucus at this point.
* Reduce Stress- This is a no brainer(and might be first on your list) but sometimes you get so clouded by your suffering that you have to fool yourself in to thinking you are fine but- just maybe you aren't- most won't know it until it's their time to figure it out. The muscle relaxers helped a great deal with this for me at first actually, but just made my head cloudy the next day and my attitude was very base. Looking for an alternative, I found L-Theanine- Jarrow Formulas Theanine , Promotes Relaxation, 100 mg, 60 Caps and SAM-e- Jarrow Formulas SAM-e, Promotes Joint Strength, Mood and Brain Function, 200 mg, 60 Enteric-Coated tabs. The L-Theanine greatly reduced my stress and the SAM-e boosted my mood so I wasn't such a depressed jerk anymore. I also decided to start using Medical MJ as needed- I know a lot of people won't be "down" with this, but it did wonders for just letting the stress just wash off of me. Other ways I found best to wind down are to play video games with my son, just follow my toddler daughter around or take a brisk hike with the whole family. And even though I am comfortable medicating myself- I just want to remind you that it doesn't always take a pill or drug or product to feel better and in today's world that's easy to forget. Enjoy the people who enjoy you! Enjoy the beautiful things in life!
* Olbas Inhaler- Olbas Inhaler, 0.01 Ounce I calmed down on the Benzedrex because it's not something you're supposed to use everyday. I found the Olbas Inhaler to be very refreshing and it definitely assisted in beating back the infection.
* Ponaris Nasal Emmoloent- PONARIS NASAL EMOLLOENT 1 OZ by Jamol Laboratories I've been using this more for maintenance. Keeps things in my nose feeling lubricated and fresh is the only way I can describe it. In a way it's a lot like Alkalol- refreshing essential oils, but doesn't burn when used full strength and doesn't need to be run through a netipot. A good alternative to using it as instructed is to get a bottle of basic saline nasal spray dump out half and in it's place add the Ponaris.
* NeilMed NasoGel- NeilMed Nasogel Drip Free Gel Spray, 1 Fluid Ounce Once I was able to move on from the Nutribiotic Nasal Spray, I chose this stuff to keep things clean and moisturized. I actually would spray this in my nose twice, wait 5 or so minutes, then blow it out along with all of the junk it collected with it. Then spray 1 more time after everything was flushed out if I felt it necessary.
My next step is to try to boost my human growth hormone and hopefully accelerate my healing. For that I'll be using AlphaGPC, Arginine, L-Lysine and L-Glutamine. Like I said, I'm no expert and haven't consulted one, but I feel this is safe enough to give a try. I've had great results from the other amino acids mentioned above, that I feel like this is a good step to take. I will also be increasing my exercise- After being grounded for so long, it's time to get back in to shape.
The thing you need to keep in mind is that healing takes time. None of my recommendations are quick fixes. Remember to always check with your doctor first before trying any new direction with your health, my experience and suggestions are not one size fits all. Good luck with your healing! If you have any products or procedures in which you feel that myself or someone else could benefit from, please feel free to comment.
