I wanted a lightstrip that could handle the elements since I was going to "spice up" the Halloween decor with some red lighting. These seemed good and upon receipt, I was glad to see that the lights were coiled nicely and wrapped in an anti-static bag. There's a separate power supply and control box (with IR receiver hanging from it) that connects to the lightstrip along with some extra connectors (I assume for daisy-chaining lights). There's a credit card-style remote with preset color buttons and some other modes like flashing and DIY modes that allow you to customize a color. After verifying that it powered on, I was able to set it up outside with my decorations (wrapped around an iron gate) and had it set to red (preset). We had torrential rain on Halloween night and though the strip was partially covered by the roof overhang, I was worried about it the next morning. Turns out, it was fine! Now that Halloween is over, I anticipate using these for accents around the Christmas tree and also for my kid's room. Note - customer service is great and if you have an issue, they'll take care of it. My first one had some defects (the lightstrip was splitting down the side exposing the LEDs), but I was promptly shipped a working replacement. Note 2 - to configure the DIY colors, please remember that white light is composed of all colors - so if you want to configure a reddish color, you would do this by pressing DIY1, then pressing Down on the green and blue buttons (removing green and blue from the white light) and you should see the lights turning purplish/pinkish - keep going until you get to the color that you like and press DIY1 to save it. You can test it by pressing a preset color then pressing DIY1 to switch back and forth.
