I bought this for a trip to the beach. I planned to use it as a cover-up. It is more than that. I could wear this to a casual dinner or lunch without worry. The arm holes are not too big and that is important. While we don't mind a bit of bag with a swimsuit cover up, we certainly don't want it in a day dress. This will work either way. The dress comes to my knees and I am 5'2", if that helps. They also included a self-belt, but I probably won't use it as such. Playfully, I wrapped it around my hair as a headband and my husband liked it! I won't trash it, that is for sure. :)
