Before ordering this laptop stand AKA portable desk, I purchased one in a similar style, but it was made of a much flimsier plastic. This stand is far sturdier and better built. The legs are made of a durable plastic, and the desk top AKA tray is made of aluminum. The latter is 16.5 inches wide. As an additional, excellent feature, which the other portable desk did not have, this laptop stand has two built-in fans to cool a laptop. The power to run the fans comes from a USB cable that plugs into the laptop itself. Since my old (2011) laptop tends to get very hot, this is a much appreciated feature. The overall design of this stand is well thought out. There are two legs which have two joints separating them into three parts. This extra joint allows the user to position these legs in multiple ways. The instructions illustrate at least 10 different potential setups. This laptop stand comes with an attachment that supposedly the user can place a mouse on. That is the one part of this stand that does not impress me. There are no instructions included on how to install the mouse attachment, and I personally could not figure out how to do it. One other issue with the design is the lip of the flat surface at the top of the stand, that is, the desk top. The lip is not tall enough to fully support a laptop and hold it in place if you have the desk top of the stand tilted forward. It is only sufficient if, for some reason, you choose to position the desk top so it is perfectly flat. If the desk top is tilted at all, the laptop will slide off the desk.
