wonderful camp stove
This is a great stove, I would say an upgraded version of the ohuhu original stove that did not have the feed area. I love the mesh tray, works perfect for toasting bread.
My preference after using twig stoves for a while in general is to fill them half to 3/4 with hardwood pellets. You can get a 40 lb bag (fills 2, 5-gallon pails) for about 5 dollars at a big box store if you ask for the type of hardwood pellets burned for heat in a home. A great urban-style trick to get the top of the pellets burning is to simply go to the dollar store, get a pack of cotton balls, and a thing or 2 of petroleum jelly (a.k.a. Vaseline) which doubles as a protectant if you get cut. Put some jelly on the cotton ball 1-3 cotton balls is all you need depending how much jelly you put on there, and it'll get the top pellets going.
The hardwood pellets will burn good and long while you do other things around the camp in comparison to continually feeding twigs. It's great to have the option to add a little extra fuel though without taking the pot off. I live in Minnesota and the wood here gets very wet, so having dry pellets packed with on a trip is a huge time saver. Better boiling in <10 min than ~2 hours with wet wood.
This entire kit fits in the 775ml cookpot by MSR. The stuff bag just fits around it, and if you are careful you should not have a problem damaging it.
I'd rate this the best non-electronic twig stove i've tried, but I do like the biolite as a pellet burner even better. The constant feed of air from the electronic fan is hard to beat if you have the cash.
