I have 3 std poodles so ear hygiene is a major issue. Tried using hemostats to pull hair but it was too hard to see the ends and I would eventually grab skin and have to deal with an open wound in the ear canal. I went back to fingers but the hair was too slippery. The powder gives you a deathgrip on hair so it comes out easily. I can also get the finer hairs deeper in the canal. Be sure to trim and file your fingernails to avoid cutting and gouging. I also stopped using commercial ear cleaners because they were expensive and ineffective in preventing yeast infetions. Syndicated vet columnist Dr. Michael Fox recommends a 50/50 solution of apple cider vinegar and water (not white vinegar). I use this once a week. If an ear starts to get too dirty I treat with Zymox, an enzymatic ear treatment with hydrocortizone, also available from Amazon. Since adotping this regimen I have had no visits to the vet for ear problems.
