Failed *LEAK & LIGHT* test. I will try my luck one more time.
I am a Lineman Apprentice and work in desert conditions where summer temperatures rise up to 110 degrees. I purchased this 20 qt cooler due to the great reviews from Amazon and the functional features advertised on RTIC’s website. One of the most influential features given on their website is the ability to keep ice up to 10 days, unfortunately that is not the case with this cooler. The cooler I received only managed to keep ice for 30 hrs even though it was pre-chilled. The lid was opened a maximum of 6 times within the 30 hour time frame, and the cooler was used in real working conditions at the job site on the back of a service truck with the sun beating directly on it. I knew something was not right, thus, I decided to conduct a light test with a bright light inside the cooler in a dark room and a leak test. Unfortunately the cooler failed both the LIGHT and LEAK TEST. During the light test the top of the lid lit up even though it was tightly sealed, and in the leak test water leaked from the back left side of the lid even though it is suppose to be vacuum sealed (refer to video). According to RTIC “All RTIC Products are warranted against defects in material and workmanship for 30 days from the original date of receipt.” This cooler was used in real working conditions and failed to maintain ice after 30 hrs. Perhaps it can be concluded that the cooler I received is defective. I will be shipping it back to RTIC and will try my luck one more time. I will update this review once I receive my replacement. ***Update*** March 13, 2023 I apologize for such a late update, I completely had forgotten about it and would like to commend RTIC for honoring their warranty. I am glad to report that RTIC did exchange my cooler, free of charge, after viewing and reading my review. The new cooler did perform much better than the original, it did however fail the leak test but excelled in all the rest. The cooler leaks where the two rubber seals meet, perhaps it's a design flaw. However, it does not impact its performance in keeping things nice and cold. The keeping of ice for 10 days is a bit of a stretch, it does manage to keep ice for 4 days under the conditions mentioned in my original review. Thus, the cooler I returned was defective. I absolutely recommend the RTIC cooler for it's price and performance. After putting it through its paces it performs solidly. The rubber latches due loosen up after a while, but that is to be expected. It's a non issue for me. If I needed to purchase another, which I still don't, I would buy it again. I hope some of you find this review helpful.
