Unfortunately bunions run in my family...as luck would have it, I "inherited" mine at the tender age of 24 :( These shoes are wide enough at the metatarsal joints (both big toe and pinky toe) that they don't aggravate my sad bunions. I also like that in both of those spots the material is very flexible, as it is just covered with the mesh and not with the stiffer leather thats used on the other parts of the shoe. If you suffer with me than you know finding a wide toe box is already a hard task...finding a toe box with the perfect angles and perfect material to accommodate our sad little toe joints is like finding gold! I bought these at DSW because I needed them fast...but they are cheaper on amazon. I have always been a size 7 in just about every brand/every type of shoe... but for this shoe a 7 1/2 was perfect. Order 1/2 a size up! Unlike some reviewers, I have found the heel width to be just right. I have very, very high arches-but like the heels, I have no complaints. So far its the best sneaker I've owned but only time and miles will tell if its really true love. I promise to update. For reference...its more comfortable than any Keens I've owned/tried on and as roomy as my Altras (but not as woah-bam-wide-toe-box-ugly... if you own Altras you know what I mean.) ----Review, as promised--- So a few years later these shoes are holding up great. I mostly use them for walking on pavement and occasionally dirt trails. They have become my go to shoes for any type of exercise....I much prefer them to my Altras. For the occasional walker around the neighborhood, long days of sight-seeing* or errands these are perfect (though not super fashionable-if only this company would make casual flats then all my shoe problems would be solved.) *Note: I took these to Alaska with me when the weather was cool and wet (but not frigid). Because of the breathability, I would imagine this is not an ideal shoe for use in the winter or in colder climates.
