Works great, but take it slow!
I've used other tinting products in the past & did it myself at home, but those products do not compare to the Godfrey tint. Although I am writing this on the very day I first used it, I anticipate from this experience, that it will have enough staying power to last me at least a couple of weeks before I have to reapply it again. (By the way, for anyone who's not familiar with eyelash/eyebrow tints, there's none I've ever used which ever lived up to its claims of lasting 6 weeks or longer). I don't mind it if I do need to reapply in 2 weeks, as I am very, very pleased with the outcome; and, I'm sure it won't take me nearly so long as it did the first time around, as there was definitely a learning curve. I tend to be rather cautious, with products I haven't used before. After having read the reviews and reading about the wide range of experiences people had, I decided I'd err on the safe side and proceed very slowly. I would recommend that anyone else not already familiar with this product, to do the same. Everyone's experience may differ, depending on their age, coloring, and/or what they have to work with, so keep that in mind. I'm 55 years old, my hair is 50% gray, & I have a few white eyebrows. I was a dark brunette, so have colored my hair the last few years. As you age, your eyebrows and eyelashes become lighter. My eyebrows have also thinned some with age, which that didn't bug me so much, but what I found most distressing, was how thinned out they became at the outer edges. Without brow pencil/makeup on my now-lighter, aging & thinning eyebrows, the outer edges of both brows were so thinned out and pale, that you could barely see them past my outer iris. Which gave me a really strange look, sans makeup! So the Godefroy tint kit is a godsend for me! I will not have to wear ANY brow pencil/brow makeup whatsoever, tomorrow. I am very, very pleased with how well this kit worked. Here is how I applied it, in case this would be helpful to anyone else. First of all, I used the magnifying side of the makeup mirror on my vanity. I usually never use the magnification side (as it makes me dizzy!), however, this was a great, great aid in applying this tint. For prep, I used petroleum jelly, although I didn't like the whole idea of it (so greasy). However, I understand the reasoning on this, as the PJ totally protects the area you're not coloring. Since the PJ was messy to apply with Q-tips, I used an old, clean eyebrow brush I had, (which worked much better), so I could more precisely place the petroleum jelly on the areas I did not want to tint. I used the kit's wooden applicators to mix up the color & developer together in the little cup they provided. I used another eyebrow brush I had, to apply the mixture to my brows, as again, I wanted to be as precise as possible with the tinting application. And being precise on this is really impossible - you just try to get it on the best you can, and small brushes/tools work better than what the kit provides. I think a mascara wand or eyelash comb or whatever other small makeup brush or tool you have some skill with using, would probably work pretty well, too. The kit said to leave this on for 2-3 minutes. Although I do have dark brunette hair, I decided since it was my first time with this product, I didn't want to chance it being too dark. I figured, it's very difficult (if not impossible) to get too-dark color out, and far easier to apply more color a bit at a time, if it winds up too light, the first time or two you apply the tint. So, I set aside an entire hour today to do this, and proceeded slowly. (It wound up only taking about 20 minutes, though). Each time I applied the tint, (I did it 3 times, 15 seconds each time), I applied it to only one eyebrow at a time. It takes a few seconds to get the stuff onto your brow - then once I got the tint/dye on the brow, I set the timer to 15 seconds - then immediately removed it. Yes, I know 15 seconds is very cautious! However, I am very glad I did it this slowly, as it was amazing how quickly this Godefroy tint worked in that 15 seconds, and how quickly it darkened. I then did the same to the other brow. At this point, if I had not had my two particular cosmetic problems of: 1) needing to dye/tint a few white eyebrow hairs, which are way more resistant to tint/dyes, and 2) needing to darken even more on the outer edges of my thinning eyebrows, I actually would have stopped, right then and there. Because after only 15 seconds on my first round, my brows were dark enough for my liking-except for the white hairs and those outer edges! However, since I did have those 2 cosmetic problems I was trying to fix, each time after keeping it on for 15 seconds, I removed the PJ, washed my face, dried it, then went back in! I did two more rounds on each brow, particularly concentrating on the pale, very thinning outer edges. Each of those two rounds on each brow, was just the same as the first round - 15 seconds each. So altogether, the tint time after I was finished applying it, was 45 seconds on each brow (3 rounds, 15 seconds each). That cumulative total of 45 seconds that I left the tint on, did not include the time (which was seconds, really, but I did not time those seconds), that it took to apply the tint each time. If you're younger & don't have gray/white brow hairs, and/or don't have very thin brows to start with, I'd highly recommend you start out with a very short time period, and not follow the manufacturer's recommendations. Even if you have particular cosmetic problems as I did, I'd still recommend anyone proceed slowly, as this tint is definitely darker than any other brow or lash tint that I've used in the past. It's far easier to add color, than it is to remove it. Lastly, I should add that I only used 1/2 of a capsule. This was plenty, and in fact, I think I could have gotten by with using only 1/3 of a capsule, as I did 3 rounds on each brow, and still had some left over when I was finished. To the 1/2 capsule of color, I added an equal amount of developer. I will repost or edit this review, should problems develop or if the tint doesn't last a few weeks. In the meantime, I'm thrilled! I can't tell you how pleased I am with how well this tint worked - I look younger than I have in years, and better than that, won't have to wear any brow makeup for a while! Yippee!!!
