Smell is bad and strong straight out of the bag. I hung it in the garage for 24 hours. No more smell. Easily laid it out on the floor where I wanted it. Put area rug on top. Then trimmed pad to fit. Very easy! This pad hasn’t moved through Lightning McQueen Paw Patrol races, games of Hide-n-Seek or Tag. It has just enough padding to make the area rug comfortable for knees to crawl around on while building wood train sets, lego city creations, marble run extravaganzas, Knex roller coasters, etc... our family room plays hard! Nice product.
