I got these shoes because we have an abundance of sandburs in our yard this year. The hateful sandburs will stick to just about everything, whether it's bare skin, fur, paw pads, toes, clothing, etc. And they sure hurt! They're so bad that my poor bullmastiff literally does not want to go outside, not even to go to the bathroom. I was really hoping the rubber on these shoes would be thick enough to withstand the sharp sandbur barbs, and it is! The sandburs lodge in the rubber soles, but don't make it to Gus's paws. I measured Gus's paws by placing a blank piece of paper on the floor under one paw, then picking up the opposite paw (so all of his weight was shifted to the paw on the floor) and tracing the width of the paw on the paper. I measured both a front paw and a hind paw, since there can be discrepancies between them. Gus was kind of between sizes, so I opted for the larger size and the shoes fit great. It took him a few minutes to get used to walking with these shoes on, but he caught on quickly and was trotting around in our yard in no time!
