Watch a lot of Youtube videos first!
It works as expected. I've been to the health spas and have actually had age spots, freckles, and beauty marks removed before using the same technology. The discomfort is exactly the same as well as the healing process. The instructions that come with this are completely unusable. Don't even bother. The broken English makes no sense and will actually freak you out because as you can imagine, things get lost in translation. There are lots of Youtube videos (look for "mole remover pen") and you'll see how this works. If you've had tattoos before, this is no where close to that type of pain. This feels more like a light rubber band snap, maybe even that little shock you get from static electricity. Once you get over that initial little surprise and fear, you'll find that it hurts less and less. For myself (I have tattoos), I'd rate the pain on a scale of 5 initially and then it goes down to a 3 or so. A lot of it is totally psychological so if you are kind of wimpy, then expect this to be like a 7 :) Having also had experience with laser tattoo removal, I can tell you that the sensation feels very similar to it but hurts less for me (probably because the area being treated is much, much smaller in comparison). So how do you get started? Well it comes with 2 different sized tips. The smaller tips come in a sealed package. The large tip is just in a zip lock bag. It also comes with a coupler that is used for the small tips. 1. PRACTICE! I know it sounds gross but they recommend practicing on pig skin first because it is the closest thing to human skin. However any fruit will work fine. I practiced on a banana. First practice with the big tip and then practice with the little one. The big tip screws right on. The little tip must be inserted into the coupler first before screwing onto the pen. While you are practicing, it would be good to get a small fan to keep the air going because it smells like something is burning (which is normal). Turn on the unit by keeping your finger on the on button for a few seconds. Then hit the button again to adjust to the power level. I used 2 (medium power). While holding the "out" button, practice using the pen in a short, sweeping motion on a banana. Ideally, you want to go over an area in one pass, meaning if you've already gone over the top part of the mole, don't keep going over it, move on to the next part of it. The tip of the pen should be making contact with the banana peel ever so lightly as you are going over it. Pretend you are removing a round mole by sweeping over the top edge of the "pretend mole" and continuing all the way down to the bottom edge as if you are "crossing" it out with a pen. Do not go back and forth like a eraser! (ie. left to right and right to left). You want to go left to right, left to right, left to right, and so on, otherwise you'll wind up stabbing the banana or breaking the fragile tip. Try to do this as evenly as possible without going over an area too many times. Remember, you should NEVER be poking through your skin with the tips. There is zero poking involved! Thats about the most dangerous thing you can do especially if more than one person is using a tip. You should be gliding the tips across skin only. By holding the pen at the angle you would normally write with is best because, like paper, you can cause some damage by writing with a pen at a 90 degree angle! Once you get the hang of this, you can move on to real skin. 2. Moving on to skin: Grab an ice pack, alcohol pads, some cotton balls, and your pen. You don't have to ice it first, but I highly recommend it because it significantly decreases discomfort. Put the ice pack on until your skin is nice and numb. Alternatively you can use numbing cream as well. A fan will help with the burning skin smell which is not very pleasant. Find a small mole to start with - extremities like legs are great places to start because it's less painful and easier to work on. Disinfect your skin as well as the tip of pen. I recommend sticking with the small tip first. Using a sweeping motion and holding the "out" button, start with the top of the mole by "crossing it out" left to right and continue crossing it out until you reach the bottom of it. The videos show people immediately wiping away the dead skin with cotton balls but I don't bother. I prefer to let it scab over and once it heals, if necessary, I will repeat the procedure if there's any signs of the mole left. Obviously the deeper you go, the longer your healing time will be for that scab to fall off. Patience is key to making sure you heal properly and use this product safely. Treat it like any dermabrasion product where a layer of skin is taken off or any laser treatment. 3. Aftercare: Treat it like you would a cut or fresh tattoo, etc. Make sure it stays clean, don't pick at scabs, etc. If you have a deep scab formed from a deep mole removal, you want to keep the scab moisturized and clean at all times to prevent it from falling out prematurely and scarring. If you experience pinpoint bleeding (which can also occur), you should treat this area with care just like a cut and NOT keep using the pen on it. Let it heal, then take another look at it to see if another treatment is needed later. Once you are comfortable with all of this, then you can move on to the larger tip for use on larger areas. Though personally I feel more confident using the smaller tip and doing another treatment in the future for stubborn marks rather than using high power and a larger tip. Everyone's skin is also different. I have pretty sensitive skin. I hope this info helps! I am also putting up a pic of my banana. The marks on left side were from the large tip and the right is the small tip. Notice the difference in depth and intensity. If you get inconsistent performance from the pen on the banana, thats ok because the pen just isn't making good contact with the banana. It will be more consistent on real skin. Also fyi, the banana actually darkened over time so initially you could barely see the marks.
