It really has made a difference.
You should know I don't have any experience with Aromatherapy. You should also know I didn't even consider Aromatherapy. I am a sixty nine year old man suffering from more than a few medical conditions all the results of Parkinson's disease. It has progressed to where I'm in a power wheelchair. I'm not looking for any sympathy as I'm doing very well. I'm enjoying life and look forward to each new day. Because of the Parkinson's I must rely on a whole bunch of people to take over many of the things I can no longer do. These aides have become almost like family and have become very special in my life. One of these aides mentioned Aroma Therapy and its possible benefits. We got into a running discussion on the subject and basically to quiet her I purchased a diffuser and this eight pack of essential oils. When it arrived the aide set it up and we put a couple of drops of Sweet Orange in the diffuser. She set the timer and continued to get her daily chores while I sat myself in front of the computer researching Aromatherapy. My goodness, there are literally volume after volume on the subject. With in minutes after plugging the diffuser the sweet smell of orange peel filled the air. It made the room smell good but in all honesty that's all it did. Once the timer shut off the diffuser the aide started it again using the same water and oil. Again the room was filled with orange but as far as I was concerned nothing else. From the bedroom where the aid was working in she yelled how nice my apartment was smelling. From around the corner she appeared and said " Do you realize you are humming " ? She's been with me from the beginning and does know me well and knows my good and bad moods. When she returned to her work I indeed did catch myself humming. I can't remember the last time I had hummed. Could it be? When she left at the end of the day I returned to my research and investigated what each oil in the sample kit. Frankincense, Lavender, Eucalyptus, Lemongrass, Peppermint, Sweet Orange, Tea Tree and Rosemary. Each oil offers its own benefits to the human physic. The next day I was up and making a cup of coffee and caught the diffuser out of the corner of my eye. I wheeled over to the diffuser got the measuring cup with water and picked out the Lavender oil for no other reason than it was supposed to be a mood changer. Maybe I placed a few more drops than necessary, but soon my apartment smelled like a flower shop. Not a bad fragrance to have. Now you expect me to say how this oil got me out of my chair and dancing right? I did notice a change in my mood however. It was like, it was like, I don't know what it was like. I wasn't thinking about what needed to be done or looking for the times people were coming. It was like I didn't need to know what needed to be done nor what time people were coming by. My aid noticed the fragrance the second she walked in. We chatted for a bit and she asked if I would like a cup of coffee from Duncan as we have one close by. She's been with me for close to two years and in all that time never once went for coffee. Could it be the Lavender? Over the next few days we tried the different oils. We have found Lavender the best and the Peppermint second best. The peppermint reminded me of my mom baking Christmas cookies. Since then I have ordered a diffuser and the oils for my two aides. I truly now believe Aroma Therapy with the oils has made a difference.
