I'm usually a small (5'5, 116lbs, in old navy an xs), and both the xsmall and small fit me in this jacket, but I wanted room to wear a thick fleece sweater underneath so I chose to keep the Small. It's still a flattering fit, yet with plenty of room for my bulky layers underneath. I wore it on a long hike 5 hour hike, it drizzled the WHOLE time, and this jacket kept every area it was covering totally dry. Bonus is that it's long enough to sit on so I was able to sit on a damp rock and eat lunch without any water soaking through the seat of my pants in the process. I can fit my phone in one of the front pockets (a big phone, note 4) and the hood stays in place really well when you need it to. Highly recommend this jacket, in your usual size, unless you want to wear something heavier than a fleece sweater under it, in which case you might want to size up for some extra space. Update: I've now had this coat for almost a full year. Somehow, every hike I have taken during this time it has rained and every time it works just as perfectly as the first time I wore it - and it still looks like new too. I wore it during some summer mountain hikes without layering and its lightweight fabric was perfect for keeping me dry but not too hot. Travelling with it has been great as it is so light and doesn't take up much space in my backpack. I would still say this is the best raincoat I have ever owned!
