I am a 55 year old male. I have diabetes for 15+ years. On my first diabetes onset, the fasting glucose number was as high as 300. I tried metformin for 3 months which lowered the number to about 200 but I felt some bad side effects. So I quit the medication and started vigorous exercise and strict diet control (no white rice/eat mixed grain rice instead, no sweet drinks). After 6-12 months, I was able to control my glucose to the normal range and was able to maintain a normal glucose for the past 14 years by just diet and exercise. A few months ago I had another onset due to extreme stress in my life. This time the blood test showed that my a1c was 16 and the fasting glucose was about 250. I repeated the same self management procedure as the first onset but the improvement was kind of slow. I also tried cinnamon and apple cider vinegar and didn't get much help. Next, I started the low carb diet (this time no rice/bread/noodle at all) and was able to lower my fasting glucose to 150-200. Finally, I started taking curcumin and my fasting glucose was steady at about 150. A colleague suggested me to take berberin which can be as effective as metformin according to some of the reviews. To my amazement, my fasting glucose was 120 after just taking it for one day. The next day, the number was lowered to 95. The third day, the number was 89 and today the number was 86. For the past few days, I also took the diabetic vitamin pack from Costco (contains chromium) and ate okra every morning. But I believe the magic bullet is the berberin in this product. I felt I am the luckiest man on earth. My colleague who suggested me to take berberin also has diabetes. But berberin doesn't seem to help him much so far (for about one week now). If you have diabetes, you may want to give berberin a try. But of course, strict diet and exercise are still the key. Wish good luck to you all.
