As advertised. Have realistic expectations.
After reading some of the negative reviews I felt compelled to write a review. There are people with unrealistic expectations out there…yet I do empathize with their frustration. 1. Never use any product on delicate skin such as the genital, anal or freshly shaven area without first trying it out on normal skin first. That is stated on the website. 2. Women: Unpleasant genital odor comes from glands between the labia majora and minora, surrounding the top of our clitoris. You should clean that area with soap. NEVER clean the actual vaginal area with anything but water unless your doctor tells you to. You risk drying the delicate skin and developing itching and burning. One woman commented that Lume “gave her a yeast infection”. I do not dispute she was suffering from unpleasant symptoms or even a yeast infection. But the irritation from using soap in the vaginal area is often mistaken for a yeast infection due to the burning and itching. Yeast likes to grow in an alkaline environment and Lume is an ACIDIFIED wash. Trust me, a slight musty or even urine smell in the vaginal area usually only water if you are able to bathe regularly. More than one GYN has told me that and I have passed it on to my patients. But ALWAYS consult with your personal physician. This is NOT a substitute for medical advice 3. The makers of Lume make claimed of odor control for extended period of time…I think with the deodorant, which I did not try. Odor is caused by the products that your bacteria make. If you have lots of folds and/or you don’t wash pretty soon there are too many bacteria for any product to control the odor of. Lume does not kill bacteria so be realistic. I bought Lume body wash with these things in mind and was not disappointed. I only use it the anal area. I noticed that after using a moisturizing soap there, lathering and repeating three times there would still be a subtle odor that left me feeling unconfident. A small amount of Lume does the trick and is not unpleasant smelling for my needs. I would use it in the underarm and genital area if needed, but am being frugal with it. I would not it for an overall body wash as it is too expensive and I prefer a feminine scent.
