Stop thinking about it and buy it now
I bought 2. I have them both in my bedroom which is on the far side of a pretty large house. I like noise and air movement when I sleep and definitely went overkill.
Note: Yes one is mounted a little off than the other so they don't match perfectly, didn't notice until we were done installing and said screw it, not worth fixing. You can make fun of me, I can take it.
Noise: I used to sleep with a box fan next to me. These two fans are no more than 5 feet further away and both of them are quieter than the single box fan. Strange. Especially with how much air they move which is a hell of a lot. You really can almost only hear the air and not the fans at all.
Weight: Heavier than you think. They're big, they weigh a lot. I think they weigh about 30-35lbs, and there really isn't any good ways of holding them so it's kind of awkward.
Mounting: I was stressing about this for awhile, our windows are kinda of big (40in). Once they arrived and we read everything, used the included template, marked it off, drilled pilot holes, and then screwed in the screws, they mounted easy. Just pick them up and hook them in. There are two different ways of mounting. We chose to mount to the frame so that the windows can still close. Yes there are gaps because the windows are a bit big, doesn't affect a thing. These would fit perfectly in normal sized windows.
Drill pilot holes, trust me on this, it will save a ton of frustrating in trying to get the screws started. Plus, and this is the only bad thing I can say about these fans, the screws are flatheads. You know how much of a pain it is to screw in flatheads, so yes, drill pilot holes.
Air movement: It was 80F inside, and 69F outside when we first turned them on. It took about 5 minutes to drop the inside temp to match the outside.
These fans are amazing, absolutely 5 stars. They're expensive, yes, but well worth it. 2 is overkill, I'm keeping them both on low most of the time. You should buy 1 and go from there. They're very strong, very well built, and move a lot of air.
You could spend money on a 5,000 watt AC unit, or this fan on high at 175 watts.
Just buy it. This is the fan. Stop wasting money on those cheap window fans that move about the same amount of air as a desktop computer fan. $20 here, $40 there, you go shopping and finally spend money on a $60 fan thinking it's the answer, stop it, just buy this one.
