Good fan for price, see notes about using ionizer.
In my previous review (bottom) I complained about the hum being quite loud. This is mainly when the fan is set to the low setting, but it's not too bad set on medium and high. The motor seems to resonate more at the low setting, so I avoid low and tend to keep the fan on medium. It also gets louder when the indoor temperature is too low for the motor to work properly. The fan itself is pretty good, with an oscillating feature, timer, remote, and high enough blowing power for a single room. The ionizer makes the fan unique though, because finding a decent tower fan like this with an ionizer is pretty hard these days, and most ionizers are more expensive.
I recommend using the ionizer only on occasion, and preferably on a timer while you're away from the room it's being used in. I use it on a 2 hour timer a few times a week while I'm at work. Essentially how it works is the negative ions produced by the ionizer bind with particulate matter in the air, which then become dust on surfaces, essentially leaving the air clean. However, these ions can also temporarily convert oxygen into ozone, which isn't necessarily bad especially because ozone eventually decays back into oxygen. With the ionizer on for a long period, eventually enough ozone may be produced to cause mild irritation to eyes and lungs (bad), so you shouldn't overuse the ionizer. There have been times when running the ionizer elevated my mood significantly, probably as an effect of increasing oxygen bio-availability as a result of the removal of particulate matter. Just remember to be careful and do research into how ionizers work and the benefits and problems associated with them.
Pretty good fan overall and at this point I do recommend it!
Review update: The ion production may decrease slightly over time as the internals get dusty. After about a year of using the fan without cleaning I was able to use the ionizer all day without noticing any irritation, but this may be ideal if you don't want to worry about how often you keep the ionizer on. I don't recommend doing this, but I used a torx screw driver to get inside (with the fan unplugged and being careful not to touch any electronics) and clean the internals, and the ion production became stronger. I will probably leave it alone next time as the ion production was still good beforehand.
For indoor air quality I've found vacuuming is really important and I try to vacuum my floors once a week. This with the fan have noticeably helped my mood.
Original review:
The functionality is good but it's annoying to have on especially on the lowest setting, at which the hum is very audible. I ordered a replacement and the replacement's hum was even worse. Everyone who answered my question about the noise stated this is a very quiet fan so I'm confused if I'm more sensitive to the noise the fan makes or if I've gotten two duds. Hence the 3-star rating, which I will improve if the next replacement sounds like what I expect based on reviews and answers. (review update: this was actually just due to the indoor temperature being very cold, which motors can have issues with in general).
