Based in reviews here, and research of other 5000 BTU air conditioners, I decided to buy an open box "used" air conditioner. Well, the box had been opened and taped back up but I don't think the unit was ever removed from the box let alone actually used; so it was basically new. First thing I did was test the unit to make sure it worked, it cooled great and the noise level was reasonable, so I installed it. My bedroom is a little over 200 sq ft but from past experience with a portable ac I felt 5000 BTU was going to be fine and I was right. It only takes about 10 mins to cool the room down on high cool and it's able to maintain a comfortable 67-70° on the low cool setting when the temp outside is 85°-90° - we rarely get temps over 100° here but we do get humidity. The noise level on this unit is really not ad bad as others have said, but it's certainly not silent.Iit's kind of like white noise, easy for me to sleep with it on and drowns out the noise from the street/college-age neighbors next door; an added plus. I will update this review after the summer is over but so far so good and I'm happy to have saved some $ on a new in box "used" product from Amazon that works great. Thanks Amazon! ps. my GF was so impressed with this unit she bought one for her bedroom at her house and uses it in lieu of the central ac.
