This is a fantastic vacuum. To save $$ money on filters and to keep this vacuum well maintained, use bags and the filter it comes with. You should then only have to replace bags going forward. To save even more $$, use Vacmaster's 5-6 gallon bags (which, as of this writing, cost less than $1.33 each as a Prime "add-on."). The bags fit (I'm using one right now); they have the same size opening as Vacmaster's 12-14 gallon bags. Finally, there has been a complaint that this vacuum does not allow bags to attach as well as other vacuums. That is true. But an easy fix to this is to use two six-inch pieces of gorilla tape on either side of the cardboard opening of the bag, to tape the cardboard square to the side of the vacuum.
