This is my second 3D Printer. The first one is a Monoprice MPSelect Mini It was easy to operate and with fairly consistent results. I wanted to get a larger printer but one that didn't break the bank. After reading the reviews, checking the facebook groups and reading online reviews I decided to purchase the Ender-3. Since I repair machines and have assembled a vast array of products so far in my life I was not deterred by this product being somewhat of a kit. The package arrived with no damage and upon opening the first thing noticed was the care taken in packing. Anti static bag for the control/lcd. All the screws and small parts were in bags and labeled (including at least one extra of each screw). All the tools that would be needed for assembly were also included. Instructions were fairly clear and concise. The documentation on the memory card was very well thought out. The only thing amiss was one of the table adjusting knobs had unscrewed in shipping. (no big deal since the table needs leveled prior to printing. With a clean level work surface, plenty of lighting and good music, I set to work. Prior to assembling remember to inventory all parts, check the side of the power supply for the right incoming voltage (it is set to 220v, if you are using 110v then move the switch) have a clean level work surface, DO NOT tighten rails etc. until this is all fitted together, then snug up all parts, check for binding, and then continue tightening. Have the z-axis threaded rod loose in the coupling, have the threaded brass receiver (by the feed drive) loose. Once the x-axis rail/assembly is on the side rails and moves smoothly then tighten the threaded rod in the coupling and snug the two screws that secure the threaded brass receiver. Turn the threaded rod gently to again make sure for free movement but no side play. Check the bed carrier rollers for play on the v grooves. Mine needed to be adjusted because there was way too much play. You will have to loosen the nylock nut up a little and then move the large hex shaped standoff either clockwise or counter clockwise depending if the rollers are to tight or to loose. Again check for smooth gliding. Once the wires to the control are hooked up to the various drives DO NOT spin the drive shafts fast. There is a possibility of generating a voltage and back feeding the control board and damaging it. Last but not least... Level the table... This is one of the most important steps. Take your time and check all 4 corners repeatedly until a piece of paper just drags when pulled out. The version of Cura that it comes with is an older one so just download the latest version from their website. Follow the instructions in the setup guide (which is on the memory card included with the printer) for entering the numbers in the machine section of Cura, import your design and have fun printing. Little tweaks here and there and trial and error... I use PLA because there really is no noxious fumes and it is relatively inexpensive, but I have noticed subtle differences in the temps etc that I have to use between different filament manufactures. Have fun, look on FB for Ender groups or just on the internet. There is a wealth of information on this printer style and people seem willing to help each other.
