Great Finishing For Chalk Paint
This is my first time chalk painting furniture. I used this wax to finish two side tables - chalk paint(FOLKART Plaid 34159 Home Decor Chalk, 8-Ounce, Cascade) and wax brush(Chalk Painter's Choice - Professional Wax Brush {R15}). The wax brush was a huge disappointment, and as a beginner, I realized it better to use this with a simple wash cloth and not a brush.
The first thing that made me very nervous about this finishing wax was the huge warning label that read "Contains solvents which can cause permanent brain and nervous system damage". This freaked me out and I used this on my balcony, kept it far from my face and tried not to breathe while using the product. If you've ever used it this way, you know it's fairly hard to use. After I relaxed a little, I started to notice the difference in made on my furniture. The beautiful tiffany blue darkened subtly, evening out and smoothing the paint. After a day of drying, it really made a huge difference to my chalk painted side tables. I like that it doesn't give my side tables an overly shiny feel. I don't want it to look like painted laminate, I want it to look natural, and this finishing wax does that in spades.
This is also a huge quantity, the two side tables I used this on barely made a dent in the tin. I have plenty left for my future chalk painting endeavors. I have found chalk painting furniture to be a lot easier than any other paint and finishing wax makes it even easier. I think finishing wax makes using chalk paints even more forgiving than they already are, smoothing and evening out for that lovely finished look. I would recommend this for any new chalk painter. It's easy to use and give furniture a great and natural look.
