I see the same issues with the screen that many others mention and am still deciding how much that matters to me for extended periods of reading. What really offends me, though, and clearly others too, is paying a premium to have no special offers and be free of advertisements only to find half the home screen in cover view taken up with book advertisements. It is dishonest on the part of Amazon. Ridiculous that one should have to enable parental controls to remove the advertisements and thereby preclude access to the store. Ridiculous that the cover view is made worthless. UPDATED 22 Feb 2013 This update is overdue. Amazon did issue a fix to provide the option to remove the advertisements and I hope they learned a lesson in the process. Now that is done and even though I wouldn't say the screen is 100% perfect, it is a five star product. So much better to use than even the last version of the Kindle. The backlighting may not be 100% perfect but it doesn't affect my enjoyment or reading, even over long periods.
