Excellent value and high-quality, but not "zero EMF"
We did a lot of research before purchasing our first far infrared sauna. We have used them elsewhere and were ready to finally put one in our home for daily use! We ordered directly from JNH.
Pricewise, JNH really cannot be beat for the quality of product you receive. It's tough to decide if you are going to "get what you pay for" when you see other companies offering apparently the same thing for a few thousand dollars more! After lots of comparison shopping, then speaking with Liz at JNH a few times, we decided to go for it :)
First off, JNH's customer service is top notch! I used both live chat via the website and also phone. The rep went out of her way to answer my list of questions and even get me some measurements that weren't included on the website. She was extra friendly and very helpful!
Our ENSI 2-person model was shipped in perfect condition. The shipping company they used here in SE Wisconsin was awesome--very friendly, timely and communicative.
It took a good hour to unpack and carefully move each piece to our basement. Assembling took probably an hour and could be done by one person but it's easier with two. It was quite simple yet the sauna construction is very sturdy! Our only structural complaint is the bench. It seems a little wiggly and the hardware for attaching the top didn't fit correctly. We did our best to make it work.
We love the Canadian Hemlock wood. I did some research on it (since Cedar is usually what people think of in saunas) and it is excellent for indoor saunas. There is only a slight wood odor that I think is pleasant. No chemicals in it so no chemical smell.
One of our main requirements was a sauna with very low EMFs. I had noticed other companies offered copies of their EMF certifications on their websites, but JNH told me the Intertek report was confidential so that was a bit of a red flag. Thankfully I happen to have a TriField EMF meter :) JNH's website states the heaters are tested at 0-0.6mG with "0" distance (right up next to it). With the sauna running, at the top of each element it does, in fact, test at less than .6mG. As you move the meter down the element they bump up to about 1.2mG, probably getting higher as it approaches where the power source enters the element. This is why I bumped one star off the rating. The bottom of the 4 upper elements in the sauna is where the main part of your body is, so really you're being exposed to the 1.2mG of EMFs, not the .6mG. (While this is all controversial, most "safe" levels are considered under 1mG.) And while I believe JNH's "zero EMF" guarantee refers to the elements only (and in all honesty, my thoughts are that this is misleading! It is NOT zero EMF. But it is generally pretty low.), be aware that the closer you get to the control panel or the power box, the EMFs are higher--nearly 5mG for both. My suggestion--if this concerns you, sit mainly on the other side of the sauna! You could also put a huge chunk of smoky quartz or black tourmaline in the sauna to neutralize some of the EMFs. Overall, the EMF levels in the ENSI model are most likely much, much less than other models, which is what we were looking for.
We love that the sauna can be plugged in to your normal grounded outlet!
The sauna itself works GREAT. The control panel is easy to use. Our purpose for the sauna is for detoxification and relaxation and we are already experiencing plenty of both! Lots of sweating going on :)
Even though we purchased the 2-person model, it's not a great fit for two people unless you are very petite. And really, do you want to be touching someone when they are sweating bullets?? Probably not ;) So in our opinion, the 2-person model is perfect for one person! It gives you a little room to move and stretch out if you prefer.
As far as the audio system goes, I have only plugged it into my phone once. It sounded really crackly, but I'm not sure if it was just a bad connection or if the audio system is low quality. For us, that's really not of great concern.
It heats up fairly quickly! It is in our basement which is generally 55-60 degrees. In about 10 minutes, the sauna is around 100-105 degrees and we like to get in at that point and warm up with it to about 130.
We've been consistently using our ENSI for about two weeks now and just love it. All the elements are working great. It has been an excellent investment! All in all, we are extremely happy with our purchase and will recommend JNH to anyone!
