A few days prior to the Real Estate update, my level 24 game glitched. A cake that was being made was suddenly not being made or in my inventory, sims were dressed for work but were not working and could not be sent to work. I restarted the game. That said, this time around I know the game better and learned from my mistakes. Here's my advice to those just starting- At the beginning buy empty lots. It will save you simoleons and when you save up lifestyle points you can buy already designed homes that will help increase your town value. You can move existing sims and households into newly built homes for a simoleon fee less than the simoleons you'd spend on a simoleon built house. I do find it unfortunate that you can't see the entire pre-designed house before buying it, but you can view it once it's built before deciding to add a new sim or move existing sims into it. Some goals are as simple as upgrading your bed, sometimes it'll give you credit if you've already done the goal, but not always, so if you can wait to upgrade your furniture, I suggest doing so til you get past the tutorial goals. There is a building/ adding onto your pool goal, so if you reach level 20, wait for the goal to save simoleons. Birthday cakes take 24 hours in real time, unless you use lps, so if you don't want to have a baby stuck in a crib, or want to jump right to pre -teen age, start your cake(s) when you start the newborn, which also takes 24 hrs. Keep in mind, having a family is a goal, so you will need the school and sports center for them. I like the game a lot, and set my available sims to planting/ work/ hobbies in time frames that they're busy while I am. One of the biggest cons of the game is not being able to use it away from wi-fi. If you live in a small town, don't expect to be able to play away from home.
