Great tent, but Coleman needs to stop calling their tents waterproof
I bought this tent for a week long camping trip in Acadia National Park (which is a beautiful park by the way) so I can speak to several aspects of this tents performance. PROS - First the set up is as easy as advertised. It goes up with two people in one minute no problem. The breakdown is also very easy but as others have mentioned this tent is bulky and difficult to stow in its carrying case UNLESS you tear off the stitching on the bottom of the case which is for expanding the size of the bag. Then it goes in no problem. Since we were camping for a week I didnt want the hassle of crouching into a dome tent all week. This tents height and door sizes on both ends solve that problem. Im 5' 10" and I could walk right in and stand upright with room to spare. We had a queen and king size inflatable mattress side by side and had room for gear and to walk around. It has 7 screened doors and windows so airflow in hot weather is no problem whatsoever. CONS - There are 6 guy lines that are necessary for stability. Without them this tent would blow down in any amount of wind. The supplied tent stakes like all standard Coleman stakes are trash. Throw them away and order better ones before heading out with this tent. The guy lines being anchored securely is absolutely imperative to maintain structural integrity on a windy night. Secondly this tent does not come with a rainfly and I think its a travesty of justice that Coleman can claim their tents are waterproof. Ive owned MANY coleman tents and not one of them has held up to a heavy rain. The tent material always allows moisture to pass through it. A morning dew will make the inside of the walls feel wet and in a heavy sustained rain (which we had one night) water passed through and collected on the floor. Luckily I had a 16x12 ft tarp over the roof so the rain only hit the lower portions of the tent walls. Without the tarp Im certain we would have been swimming in water. My final gripe is more of a concern that the tent poles will not stand up to the test of time. They are awkward and bend and flex in every direction during set up and breakdown and I believe it will only be a matter of time before one malfunctions and makes assembly impossible. Overall this is an awesome tent that did everything I needed it to for my family of four but be sure to order better tent stakes and a tarp for underneath (16x12) and one for over the top (at least 16x12) to keep you dry!
