We bought this gate to keep our shi-tzu from running off the front porch while we're sitting out relaxing, and it does the trick nicely. It's a perfect solution for a non-permanet barrier. Set up is ridiculously easy, and the gate folds up nicely and can be put out of the way when you don't need it. Don't get me wrong, this isn't the type of gate that will keep in medium/large dogs or one that likes to jump--such as a terrier--but it's a great solution for most small dogs. As a side note, the gate is untreated wood, so it's a snap for a DIYer to customize to fit their space with paint or stain--I stained and varnished ours for outdoor use. I don't know exactly what type of wood it's made out of, but it doesn't take stain as well as pine or oak, so use a shade or two darker than you think you want.
