We have 3 rooms in the house that have ethernet wires that connect via a patch panel to our internet connection. We recently upgraded the internet speed to gigabit speeds, and I needed cat 6 cables to handle the increased speed. I got the cables from Amazon, and I was able to connect the patch panel to a gigabyte ethernet switch, which in turn connects to the internet router. Now I can run the computers at top speed. It is helpful having different colors for the ethernet cables, so I can quickly see which port is which. The older cat 5 cables that we had would only handle 100Mbs speed instead of gigabit speeds.
