The piece itself is aesthetically pleasing and surprisingly sturdy. The majority of the complaints seem to be personal issues. I’m glad I take other’s reviews with a grain of salt. I had zero issues with the hardware. Someone mentioned the screws stripping. Screws don’t strip themselves. Use appropriate tools (this required 2 sizes of Phillips heads) and don’t over-tighten your screws. The door hardware works perfectly fine if you understand how hinges and latches work...again, don’t over-tighten your screws. I’m not sure why anyone would think this is “waterproof.” It’s wood and there are joints. I bought it with the intention of lining the wood with contact paper and sealing the joints with silicone - problem solved. As far as people complaining it smells - not if you clean your litter boxes regularly, use quality litter and wipe down any “water.” If you’re letting your boxes fill up and sit long enough to permeate the wood - that’s not the product’s fault. I had 2 minor issues with this: 1) one of the dowel holes was not drilled deep enough - simple fix of...I didn’t insert the dowel. I could have drilled out the hole or cut the dowel but it has no supportive quality between the top and side panel. 2) the picture for step 4 - the holes in the picture definitely do not match up to the appropriate placement for the screws for the cam locks. Which may be why one person says the top doesn’t stay on - cam locks, unlike dowels, are pretty important.
