In response to Laura Grinspan comment below. She fails to realize that CRNAs/Nurse Anesthetists/Nurse Anesthesiologists are independant practitioners and are able to practice independently in every state in America. Some hospitals have Physician Anesthesiologists and some hospitals do not. Some hospitals there are Nurse Anesthesiologists and Physician Anesthesiologists and they work together. No matter what though you will have the same outcome: excellent care. Nurse Anesthesiologists practice in all types of settings. In the late 1800s Nurse Anesthesiologists we’re actually around before there were Physician Anesthesiologists. The book is accurate! Next time you a friend or family member has surgery I encourage you to ask who will be in the room the entire time. The American Society of Nurse Anesthetists has more information on our history, back ground, and who we are, what we do. Every Breath, every beat, every second, We Are There.
