Surprisingly good quality / Made AC and DC measurements
Summary/Review: fairly quiet with the fan being the loudest noise it produces.. Much quieter than a typical box fan on low. The interior light is a nice touch and I assume it uses a magnet/reed switch to turn off. The chain cable stops the lid at about 130 degrees from closed. Interior walls get cold fast! Tested with full case of water bottles and quite impressed considering the power consumption. Being a top loading (king chest style) helps to maintain cooling while opening door. I don't know exactly what the ECO mode does. I suspect there might be a heater/defrosting component (see DC observations) that is disabled in ECO mode. This is NOT confirmed so don't take this as gospel! AC observations: * AC power brick shows up at between 14.5 and 14.8 volts on the fridge/freezer display. Description mentions 12/24V but have not tested above 14.8V in AC or DC modes. * AC power brick has a moderately low power factor (around 65%) and a peak VoltAmps around 110VA (line voltage 122.3V AC). VA is useful for UPS or inverter sizing when planning operating with included AC power brick. Recommend inverters with continuous "rating" of 100W or more (as they assume 90% or higher Power Factor). * AC Power consumption (with power factor included) varies but the 45W provided in product description is fairly accurate. The peak AC power (watts) can be slightly higher than 85W or as low as 60W while the compressor is active. Off duty will bring the average down. DC observations (using a bench power supply): * The voltage drop under load is slightly more than 1V (from bench display to fridge display). Cables in used are the mostly likely culprits. * Idle current varies VERY slightly from 0.05A (14.0V) up to 0.06A (12.5V). Bench and fridge display are same during idle. * Active current varies little with voltage, I was expecting the current to go up while voltage drops. Current remains fairly consistent with one exception (see next). * Initial load current is usually around 3.0-3.4 across low (12.4V) or high (13.6V) as reported on fridge display. That range can be typically expected under DC use. * After running for a while, current sometimes slowly rises up around 4.15A and then back down to around 3A (over a few minutes). I am guessing THIS is perhaps a "defrosting" heater wire someplace in the system!? It doesn't always do this which leads me to believe a heater wire (used in many home freezers). This WAS while temp set point was below freezing. * Tried to determine the voltage drop out (voltage protection) set points but have not had consistent tests. The "L" (low) voltage point might be as low as 10.0 volts but not sure. Recommend leaving on "H" High until you experience F1 fault (protection) and lowering to "M" medium only when necessary. I would avoid using "L" low unless you know what you are doing. Attached photos contain SOME of the results. Hopefully this helps others who are traveling, camping or perhaps off-grid and need to plan an accurate power budget! --Doug M
