Dickinson, Texas, checking in here right after our little winter storm that rolled through. At 3am our lights go off and now I’m walking around in the dark while I get dressed. It’s freezing outside as it’s Monday morning and this thing just rolled in. By the time I find all my layers, and this is Texas so we usually don’t need to layer, it’s noticeably colder in the house. I roll out the generator, top off the tank, and push the button to fire it up. It cranks, and cranks, and after about 3 cycles fires up. I expected this as it had to prime the fuel so no worries. I let it run for a minute just to make sure everything is good, check oil, and make sure it’s idling smoothly. I connect the 50amp cord, turn main incoming breaker off, and turn generator panel breaker on. I walk over to generator and turn that main breaker on and the lights come back on. I go back inside and hear BOTH central air heaters turn on and the house is warming up. I turn my pool pump on, plug my phone back in, and go to sleep. My girls didn’t notice a thing, we were warm, and stayed on this power for about 3.5 days. Not a SINGLE issue. I bought this for Hurricane Season last year but I never expected to use it for a winter storm. I am SO relieved to have this and it’s worth it’s weight in gold. Here are some things you should know before buying if you aren’t familiar with generators. These are loud. Period. This one isn’t any louder than average, so if you’re used to it, it’s fine. It was outside with the garage closed, and it chained to my truck just in case, and we slept fine. But you know what? I couldn’t hear it during the day because we were watching movies up in our media room while the neighborhood was without power. It’s heavy, because obviously it is. It’s a lot of equipment and it’s built well. It has wheels, a nice cushioned lever, and my wife and move it around with medium effort. No biggie. I don’t have any gripes or cons because it did it’s job for over 3 days without issue. I was providing coffee to people, cooking for people, even had a couple people over that needed to get rid of their ribs and stuff before they lost it so I fired up the smoker and let their family thaw out a bit. Just from this week 8 of my neighbors have ordered this exact model. It works. I love it, almost as much as my Indian Motorcycle.
